Reported Explosion in Ankara, Turkey’s Capital City (UPDATED)

Reports came in of a large explosion in the capital city of Ankara, Turkey Tuesday afternoon.

Images and video of plumes of black smoke began flooding Twitter, but shortly after the first reports came in, authorities said there was no explosion and that the fire is reportedly confined to a residential area and is under control.

The nation remains jolted following a terrorist attack last month at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport and an unsuccessful military coup last Friday. The effort by elements within the country’s armed forces to wrest control of the government from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ended with over 200 dead and thousands of officers arrested.
