An EgyptAir flight carrying 66 people including crew on board has crashed, according to French President Francois Hollande during a news conference.

Authorities from Egypt and Greece immediately began search efforts in the Mediterranean Sea. The plane was only ten miles into Egyptian air space when it disappeared from all radar Wednesday night.

A translation of a post on the Facebook page of President Hollande reads:

I met with Egyptian President Sisi about the disappearance of that night of egyptair flight between Paris and Cairo.

We have agreed to cooperate closely in order to establish as quickly as possible to the circumstances of disappearance.

I share the anguish of the families affected by this tragedy.
