Ryan Lochte Summoned to Rio to Testify Before Brazil’s Justice Department

ryan lochteFox News is reporting that Ryan Lochte has been summoned to return to Rio De Janiero to tesify before Brazil’s justice department.

According to the Fox News report, Lochte is not required to appear to testify. But a Brazilian police detective told Fox News that failure to do so will result in Lochte being unable to negotiate a plea.

Lochte is currently in the United States apparently preparing for the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars, according to multiple reports. It is unclear, at this time, if he will answer the summons and return to Rio. The legal consensus appears to be that extradition is highly unlikely.

Last week, Lochte’s US swimming teammate Jimmy Feigen reached a deal with Brazilian authorities to pay approximately $11,000 to charity for the return of his passport. It’s unknown if further action could be taken against Feigen or the other swimmers involved in Lochte’s fabricated robbery claim.

We will continue to monitor this story for further updates.
