Trump Cancels South America Trip to ‘Oversee American Response to Syria’

The White House told reporters on Tuesday morning that President Donald Trump is canceling his upcoming trip to South America, to weigh action against Syria over the alleged chemical weapons attack.

CNN’s Jim Acosta and Fox News’ John Roberts reported that Trump is cancelling his trips to South America in order to oversee the U.S. response to Bashar al-Assad‘s recent actions. Assad is accused of using chemical weapons in a suburb near Damascus that left dozens dead, including children.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the press pool that Vice President Mike Pence will take Trump’s place at the Summit of the Americas.

This announcement comes a day after Trump denounced the recent chemical attacks and said the government would make “major decisions” on Syria within 48 hours.
