Yesterday, Houston’s last news radio station aired its final journalistic broadcast, and quietly died due to poor ratings and financial woes. But today, in a perfect commentary on The Times We Live In, Houston’s News 92 FM will play Beyoncé songs, only Beyoncé songs, and nothing but Beyoncé. Want anything else? NO. Beyoncé or nothing.
In a statement, News 92 said that their decision to close was “a result of sustained poor ratings performance and significant financial losses over the past three years,” adding that “unfortunately, the market hasn’t shown a sustainable appetite for news radio.” However, there’s apparently a strong appetite for all of Beyoncé’s music, given that she’s from Houston, though it is unclear if the 24/7/Beyoncé extends to the work she did with Destiny’s Child or Girls’ Tyme, the kiddie-pop band she sang in when she was 11.
Is Beyoncé a good replacement for journalism? Dunno, but it’s probably good for traffic.
