Last week CBS Sports decided to pull the planned pre-game intro featuring a Rihanna performance. Well, it just so happened that performance was before a Ravens game, and given the fact that one of their players, Ray Rice, was recently suspended for beating his wife, and Rihanna herself was the victim of domestic abuse, CBS decided it wouldn’t be appropriate.
CBS wanted to use it this week, however, but Rihanna wasn’t having any of it:
CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this.
— Rihanna (@rihanna) September 16, 2014
Well, after Rihanna sent out that tweet, CBS decided to just cut the opening altogether. Here’s the statement from CBS:
Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our ‘Thursday Night Football’ open. We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.
