Charleston Suspect’s Roommate: ‘Attack Had Been Planned for Six Months’
The roommate of Dylann Roof, suspected to be the perpetrator of the Charleston shooting, told ABC News this afternoon about his suspicions that the attack had been planned out for at least six months. Dalton Tyler, who has known Roof for seven months to a year, last saw Roof about a week ago, and reportedly said that Roof had been “planning something like that.”
Tyler said he first met Roof through a mutual friend. He said Roof had a “on and off” relationship with his parents, and that until this past week, he was never allowed to keep with him the gun he was given as a birthday present.
“He was big into segregation and other stuff,” Tyler said. “He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself.”
Jason Mullins, who knew Roof in high school, previously offered comments about Roof’s “wild” behavior and heavy drug use, eventually revealing remarks from Roof on racial jokes and Southern pride statements.
Roof was arrested in Shelby, North Carolina earlier today, having been thought by police to have fled from Charleston following the massacre.
