The video, recorded and first posted to Facebook on the scene, captures one officer pinning pinning a man down as people around them shout “He’s gonna shoot us!” The second officer shouts at the people crowding around to back up, and when the man pinned down continues struggling, the second officer walks over and appears to head-stomp him.

According to the Chicago Tribune, both officers were taken to the hospital afterwards––both were bitten and one had choking injuries.

The Chicago PD said that the officer who appeared to head-stomp the suspect on the ground has been relieved of his duties. The department’s Independent Police Review Authority announced there is an investigation underway:

“We received information regarding the incident and the accompanying video and we launched an investigation into the incident last night. It’s still very early on. We immediately went over to district (last night) to try and identify the officers and move forward from there.”
