Christie Offers Stronger Rebuttal of Trump 9/11 NJ Claims: ‘It Didn’t Happen’
Last week, Chris Christie responded to Donald Trump‘s erroneous claims about the 9/11 terror attacks by saying he did not remember Muslims cheering about it by the thousands in New Jersey. While Christie’s response was seen by some as tepid and underwhelming at the time, he was asked again about Trump’s repeated insistences, and emphatically proclaimed “it didn’t happen.”
“I said I didn’t remember it, that was the way I put it that day,” said Christie, seeming to reflect on his first response. “That wasn’t me trying to hedge anything, it was me telling the truth. I don’t remember it happening, and if it had happened, I’m pretty sure I’d remember it.”

Even as Trump continues to defend his assumption, fact-checkers, news outlets, and many others all took him to task for his inaccurate claims and concerns over whether he is fueling a negative environment against peaceful Muslims.
“If you’d like me to say it another way, I’d be happy to say it another way, it didn’t happen,” Christie said. “The fact is people can say anything, but the facts are the facts and that didn’t happen in New Jersey that day and it didn’t happen since.”
