Chuck Schumer Doubles Down on Filibuster: ‘Gorsuch Will Not Reach the 60 Vote Margin’

Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer swung by Meet the Press, Sunday, to talk about the growing tensions surrounding Judge Neil Gorsuch. Schumer said the judge, nominated by Donald Trump to the Supreme Court, was not going to get the 60 votes needed to break a Democratic filibuster.

“It looks like Gorsuch will not reach the 60 vote margin,” said Schumer. “Why doesn’t President Trump, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate sit down and try to come up with a mainstream nominee?”

Host Chuck Todd, grilled the New York Democrat about his previous support for a rules change in 2013, when Democrats in the majority voted to do away with the filibuster for lower court judges, over strenuous Republican objection.

“We did not change it for Supreme Court” Schumer shot back. “When a nominee doesn’t get 60 votes you shouldn’t change the rules, you should change the nominee.”
