In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier today, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was asked about the recent leak of two pages of President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return.
Baier pressed Schumer on the position taken by many Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, that Trump may have not paid any taxes, considering that the released 1040 showed the president paid millions that year.
“The Trump campaign said these numbers are accurate,” Schumer said. “It is two pages of one year. The real nub is what happened over ten years.”
The New York lawmaker then remarked on what he thought was the real issue still left unaddressed by the return — where is Trump getting his money.
“The key question is, are there Russian sources,” he told Baier. “And might those have affected or will affect President Trump?”
Schumer further added that Trump has been softer on Russian President Vladimir Putin than past presidents.
