CNN’s Scottie Nell Hughes Clarifies ‘No Such Thing’ As Facts Comment
Here is a follow-up on one story that really took off at the end of last week about CNN’s Scottie Nell Hughes, who appeared on NPR and explained that, “There’s no such thing, unfortunately, anymore as facts.”
In context, it was pretty clear that she meant everyone believes that their opinions are facts and rejects facts that don’t line up with their beliefs. She used phrases like, “Everybody has a way of interpreting them to be true,” and, “I think it’s also an idea of an opinion.”
Still, the statement was jarring, so she gave a statement to colleague Brian Stelter ahead of the release of last night’s edition of his newsletter, “Reliable Sources.”

She said that “of course” she believes in objective facts, but that during the election, members of both major political parties refused to believe what the other party was saying.
