CNN’s Stelter: Not Shocking DNC Won’t Give Fox News a Debate, Dems are ‘Dehumanized’ Every Night on Fox in Primetime
Following The New Yorker‘s deep dive on Fox News published earlier this week, the Democratic National Committee announced Wednesday that the network will not be awarded a Democratic Presidential primary debate. This comes as no surprise to one key media critic.
Appearing on CNN Right Now Wednesday afternoon, Brian Stelter weighed in on the DNC’s decision not to debate on Fox. The Reliable Sources host, while citing “journalists like Bret Baier who do a good job,” pinned the blame for Fox News being left out squarely on its primetime hosts.
“Every night in primetime, Democrats are dehumanized, they are attacked relentlessly by Fox News primetime hosts,” Stelter said. “It was always hard for me to imagine a Democratic primary debate taking place in those hours — when figures like [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] and [Rep.] Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez [D-NY] are constantly demonized and attacked.”
In a statement, DNC chair Tom Perez did not specifically cite the primetime hosts, but did comment on “the inappropriate relationship between President [Donald] Trump, his administration and Fox News.”
“Recent reporting in the New Yorker…has led me to conclude that the network is not in a position to host a fair and neutral debate for our candidates,” Perez said. “Therefore, Fox News will not serve as a media partner for the 2020 Democratic primary debates.”
