Comey Invokes Bush and Obama to Shade Trump: He’s a ‘Counterpoint’ to ‘Ethical Leadership’

Over the past few days, President Donald Trump has had a LOT to say about former FBI Director James Comey’s upcoming memoir. Hours ahead of the airing of Comey’s highly anticipated ABC interview and with a number of book excerpts and preview clips having already hit, the president suggested Comey should be jailed while trashing the ex-FBI chief in a series of Sunday morning tweets.

This afternoon, Comey responded with a not-so-subtle subtweet in which he clearly commended Trump’s two predecessors while holding up POTUS as an example of unethical leadership.

“My book is about ethical leadership & draws on stories from my life & lessons I learned from others,” Comey tweeted. “3 presidents are in my book: 2 help illustrate the values at the heart of ethical leadership; 1 serves as a counterpoint. I hope folks read the whole thing and find it useful.”

Comey served as the deputy attorney general in the Bush administration from December 2003 to August 2005. After working in the private sector, he became the FBI director under President Barack Obama in 2013, taking over for current Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Comey was fired by Trump in May 2017.
