Corker Slams Trump Again to WaPo: ‘You Cannot Publicly Castrate Your Own Secretary of State’
If you thought Bob Corker was done slamming President Trump for the week, you thought wrong.
Corker began the week by calling the White House an “adult day care center” and warning that the President’s rhetoric could put the U.S. on a path to WWIII.
And it looks like he’s ending the week by slamming the President for “castrating” his Secretary of State.
Corker spoke to Washington Post Deputy Editorial Page Editor Jackson Diehl today, and according to Diehl, Corker had the following to say about Trump undercutting Rex Tillerson:
[A]s Corker sees it, the biggest problem is that Trump is neutering his own chief diplomat, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and thereby inviting “binary” situations in which the United States will have to choose between war and a North Korea or Iran capable of threatening the United States with nuclear weapons.
“You cannot publicly castrate your own secretary of state without giving yourself that binary choice,” Corker told me in a phone interview Friday. “The tweets — yes, you raise tension in the region [and] it’s very irresponsible. But it’s the first part” — the “castration” of Tillerson — “that I am most exercised about.”
As for what Corker said about WWIII earlier this week, he adds that now that his comments are out there, Trump “will do everything in his power to prove that it is not true.”
