According to NBC News, the tragic events that unfolded in Dallas late Thursday are the deadliest attacked aimed at law enforcement since April 6, 1970, when four California state troopers were killed in Los Angeles.
At this hour, it is believed that two snipers opened fire on police officers sometime around 9 p.m. local time, resulting in the deaths of four and leaving another seven injured. While protestors were peacefully gathered in the wake of the Alton Sterling and Philando Castile deaths, tonight in Dallas there was no mistaking the intended targets.
Only eight incidents in America since 1900 have resulted in the more deaths than out of Dallas Thursday night. One of those was 9/11, in which 72 members of law enforcement died; the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 left eight dead.
Two of the injured police officers are in critical condition according to NBC News.
