David Gregory: Psych Evaluation Story an ‘Utter Fiction’

Earlier this week, The Washington Post reported that NBC hired a “psychological consultant” to interview Meet the Press host David Gregory’s friends and family in an effort to address the program’s lackluster ratings. NBC denied that claim and, on Friday, Gregory said that The Post’s report was inaccurate and “gossip reporting gone wild.”

“It’s a complete fiction,” Gregory said of The Post’s report on the Washington D.C. area radio station WTOP. “There was never any psychological consultant hired. That’s utter fiction. That’s gossip reporting gone wild.”

He said that the network did hire marketing consultants to explore his and MTP’s “strengths” as part of NBC’s effort to successfully brand the program. “”The idea about psychological counseling or psychological testing,” Gregory added, “it’s just complete fiction and has been kind of a runaway train.”
