Debbie Wasserman Schultz: Rand Paul’s Deflecting from Our Abortion Fight

Last week, Senator Rand Paul answered a question on abortion exceptions by suggesting the media ask DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she’s okay with “killing a 7-pound baby that’s just not born yet.”

Wasserman Schultz responded by saying, “I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved. Period.”

But in a new interview with MSNBC’s Benjy Sarlin today, she continued to hammer Paul for his anti-abortion stance and issues of rape/incest exceptions:

“I answered his question specifically: We support a woman’s right to choose and we don’t support government interference between her and her doctor. The way he tried to characterize that was to deflect and not answer the question he was asked. We still didn’t get an answer.”

Wasserman Schultz and the DNC have been taking a great many shots at Paul since he announced his presidential campaign last week, especially on social issues. She expressed confidence that voters will recognize Paul’s position as “out of touch.”
