Delta Bans Use of Planes to Ship Animal Trophies Amid Cecil the Lion Outrage
Amid the outrage over the killing of Cecil the lion by an American dentist/hunter, there have been calls to rein in regulations when it comes to the export of animal trophies and their import into the United States.
A few airlines had already taken steps to ban the transport of big animal trophies, but today Delta Air Lines released a statement announcing they’re doing the same.
A Delta spokesperson told The New York Times, “Effective immediately, Delta will officially ban shipment of all lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros and buffalo trophies worldwide as freight. Prior to this ban, Delta’s strict acceptance policy called for absolute compliance with all government regulations regarding protected species. Delta will also review acceptance policies of other hunting trophies with appropriate government agencies and other organizations supporting legal shipments.”
