Dem Senator Won’t Stand for Party’s ‘Bullsh*t’ if They Try to Obstruct GOP

Now that the Republicans have both chambers of Congress, they’ll be able to get their agenda through (at least until the president vetoes it). But how far will Democrats go to stop it? Obstruction? Well, at least one Democrat won’t stand for that “bullshit.”

Senator Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat who’s had no problems taking shots at his own party before, was featured in a Politico profile yesterday about red-state Democrats who see opportunity in the Republicans controlling the Senate. It’s possible that Republicans might pass bipartisan legislation with the help of these Democrats on things like the Keystone XL pipeline.

And as for whether the Democrats would try to obstruct the GOP agenda, Manchin simply said, “That’s bullshit… I’m not going to put up with that.”

Senator Claire McCaskill went into slightly more detail:

“Our caucus needs to take a hard look at the way we do things and make sure we are putting the policy issues first before politics. The habit we got into in doing nothing, no one was happy with that. I hope that we never go back to that.”

It’s worth noting that both President Obama and outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said last week that the message of the midterms was that voters just want both sides to work together and solve problems.
