Democratic Senator Apologizes for ‘Staff #Fail’ Twitter Joke

Few states have been hit harder by a large nor’easter than Virginia where some parts of the state saw upwards of two feet of snow overnight and into the morning of February 13. For Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), or, as he claims, his staff, it was also an opportunity to make jokes at the expense of his state’s Republican Party.

“Just a matter of time,” Warner’s account tweeted on Thursday. “Waiting for the @VA_GOP to claim this winter storm was caused by The Affordable Care Act. #Snowbamacare”

That tweet, preemptively attacking his state’s GOP and making light of the hardships that many were experiencing as a result of the ACA, was deleted less than 30 seconds after it was published. Warner quickly apologized and blamed his staff for the insensitive tweet.

“Oops. Staff #fail on a snow day,” Warner wrote. “Removed as quickly as possible. Enjoy the rest of your snow day.”
