At the beginning of today’s broadcast of CNN’s The Lead, host Jake Tapper needled Speaker of the House Paul Ryan over his description of Republican disagreements surrounding the House GOP’s Obamacare replacement bill as “growing pains.”
Earlier today, Ryan said Republicans were “going through the inevitable growing pains of being an opposition party to becoming a governing party” and when they were the opposition party, they were in a divided government.
“Speaker Ryan says Republican fights on the Hill are growing pains,” Tapper noted at the start of his program. “Growing pains — does that count as a preexisting condition?”
Conservative members of the House and Senate have been highly critical of the proposed healthcare plan, with Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) labeling it Obamacare Lite and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) likening it to a “lump of coal” at Christmas.
