Donald Trump Has Given Up His Android Phone for Secret Service-Encrypted Phone
If you’re one of the people who really wished that Donald Trump would put down his phone, we’ve got some good news. However, don’t expect that he’ll stop tweeting anytime soon.
Associated Press reports that Trump has given up his Android smartphone in exchange for a secure new one that’s been approved by the Secret Service.
Trump was known for being accessible on his phone throughout his campaign, and his tweeting has been a source of many of his more controversial moments. Smartphone security remains relatively new as a challenge for the Secret Service, and President Obama‘s cell phone was heavily modified when he took office back in 2009.
While Trump doesn’t use email or computers very much, New York Times reported that the president-elect was previously concerned about becoming “isolated” if he didn’t have his phone to send out tweets or take calls while making decisions. Only a handful of people are privy to Trump’s new cell number, though it’s possible he’ll still be able to tweet, seeing as Obama’s phone was one of the devices he used to access the @POTUS account.
Trump has reportedly expressed interest in keeping his Twitter account active, rather than taking over the @POTUS handle.
