Donald Trump might be taking a few days off from the campaign trail. The real estate mogul plutocrat might have $10 billion and the highest current ranking in the polls, but what he doesn’t have is exemption from jury duty.
Trump Organization vice president Rhona Graff told CNN on Friday that Trump is scheduled to appear alongside his competition at the Iowa State Fair this weekend, but he will appear in court on Monday. The state fair is a traditional campaign stop where Trump offered to give kids helicopter rides, but even with his upcoming civic duty, reports suggest the weekend won’t be fun anyway because of killjoys who don’t like helicopters.
Reports have also pointed to an additional reason for why Trump would find reporting for duty a good idea. While the fines are a drop in the ocean for him (because he’d never settle for merely a “bucket”), New York Daily News released an article in June that Trump has bailed out on jury duty five times in the past nine years.
Trump adviser Michael Cohen said that Trump would have reported for duty if he had ever gotten the notices, saying that “any assertion that Mr. Trump doesn’t take his civic responsibilities seriously is absolutely false.”
