Dozens Injured After They Walked on Hot Coals for a Self-Help Seminar

fire walkingYou know those self-help seminars where they tell you to walk on hot coals to face your fears? Well, dozens of people who did that this week got seriously injured.

Motivational speaker Tony Robbins came to Dallas yesterday for an Unleash the Power Within seminar, which he describes as an event “designed to help you unlock and unleash the forces inside that can help you break through any limit and create the quality of life you desire.”

Well, last night that involved hot coals, and according to Reuters, things went south quickly.

Up to 40 people were injured with serious burns and ambulances came to the scene. Most of the injured were taken care of right there, but others were taken to the burt unit of a nearby hospital.

In a local news interview last night, Robbins’ head trainer Tad Schinke said, “We always have a few people that, you know, have some discomfort afterwards, and we do our best to take care of them.” Via the AP:

They were apparently dozens out of thousands of people who had participated.
