One of the leaked DNC emails shows Democratic staffers mocking their boss Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her lack of policy knowledge about the Zika virus, despite the virus threatening her home state of Florida.
In the email chain first flagged by the Washington Free Beacon, DNC fundraising staffers haggled with Wasserman Schultz’s personal staffers over a fundraising event with a nurses’ union that the chairwoman was expected to attend. Wasserman Schultz’s assistant was concerned that her boss wasn’t up to date on the latest developments on the Zika virus, and wanted to know if the subject would come up. The DNC staffers assured her that the event would be light on policy specifics.
Afterwards, the DNC staffers joked about the situation among themselves. “Shouldn’t a Florida rep know about Zika virus?” national finance director Jordan Kaplan said. “Come on.” Florida led the nation in Zika diagnoses at that point in time, with 42 infections alone in Wasserman Schultz’s constituency of Miami-Dade County.
The staffers then seemingly joked about Wasserman Schultz’s habit of tardiness. “It’s fine–realistically she’ll come 45 minutes late anyways,” Alexandra Shapiro quipped.
“And leave in five minutes,” Kaplan countered.
