CNN’s Erin Burnett pressed former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz––who is attending the inauguration on Friday––on whether she considers Donald Trump to be a “legitimate president” or not.
Wasserman Schultz said she respects the decision of colleagues who aren’t going, but she decided to attend the inauguration because she wants to send a message about holding Trump accountable.
When Burnett asked her if Trump’s a legitimate president, Wasserman Schultz said, “No question that the outcome of this election was affected by the Russian interference with the campaign.”
Burnett asked again and she said she doesn’t want to “weigh in on the application of the term legitimate or not.”
But with over 50 Democrats so far saying they won’t attend, along with the rising questions of legitimacy, Burnett felt this was a relevant question for people to give definitive answers on.
Wasserman Schultz simply said, “I think my view on that I’ll be able to reach a conclusion on when I hear more about these investigations.”
