‘Extraordinarily Improper’: Scarborough Shocked Trump Admitted To Checking On an Investigation on Himself
If you didn’t know by now, NBC News will be airing an exclusive one-on-one interview with President Donald Trump this evening. The conversation with anchor Lester Holt took place earlier today at the White House and occurs just two days after the president dropped a bombshell by firing FBI Director James Comey.
This afternoon, following Andrea Mitchell airing a portion of the interview on MSNBC, Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough called in to give his take on what he had just heard. And he really took it to the president when it came to Trump’s admission that he spoke directly to Comey about an active investigation involving himself.
“It’s just — it’s mindboggling,” Scarborough exclaimed.
After Mitchell noted that it is mindboggling even if not illegal, Scarborough jumped back in to make a comparison between the situation involving then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton and this one with Trump and Comey.
“It was not illegal for Loretta Lynch to talk to Bill Clinton but it was improper,” he noted. “And she did the right thing after meeting President Clinton and pulled herself from the investigation.”
Scarborough continued, “So perhaps it’s not illegal that the president of the united states is checking on the status of an investigation against him with the FBI director, but it is extraordinarily improper.”
Scarborough would go on to warn Republicans about what could happen to them if they don’t start “speaking truth to power” when it comes to Trump. Pointing to poor poll numbers, he stated that “things are going to get considerably worse” for them once Democrats take control of the House in 2018.
