FBI Reportedly Looking Into One of Ivanka Trump’s International Business Deals
It’s already been a tough week for Jared Kushner. Now it looks like his wife has her own headaches to deal with.
According to a new report by CNN, White House senior official — and daughter of President Donald Trump — Ivanka Trump is currently having a business deal she negotiated scrutinized by FBI counterintelligence officials.
The FBI has been looking into the negotiations and financing surrounding Trump International Hotel and Tower in Vancouver, according to a US official and a former US official. The scrutiny could be a hurdle for the first daughter as she tries to obtain a full security clearance in her role as adviser to President Donald Trump.
The development in question was opened in February 2017, just after the president’s inauguration. CNN noted that it isn’t clear why the FBI investigators are looking at this deal. It is possible that the timing of the deal, or the foreign cash involved, could be sparking interest from the FBI.
A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump said that CNN was “wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application.” Recently, Kushner had his security clearance downgraded at the White House, preventing him from viewing top-secret documents. The White House would comment to CNN on the status of Ivanka’s clearance.
