Fiorina Swipes at Carson: I Won’t Threaten to Leave GOP, ‘I Actually Am a Republican’
Ben Carson threatened to leave the GOP over reports the RNC might try to control next year’s nominating convention; a threat Carly Fiorina found confusing.
With Donald Trump‘s rise in the polls, there’s new talk this week about the possibility of a brokered convention, with no one candidate having enough votes to get the GOP nomination outright. And with new reports that the RNC might use that opportunity to back an alternative if Trump gets a plurality, Carson issued a statement saying if it happens, Trump “will not be the only one leaving the party.”
Hugh Hewitt asked Carly Fiorina, one of Carson and Trump’s GOP rivals, about that on his radio show today. She responded, “I’m not gonna threaten to leave the party because I actually am a Republican.”
Fiorina also didn’t quite understand Carson’s meaning. She said the reporting is premature because the voters, not the party, decide whether the convention is brokered in the end. She said a brokered convention may end up being “the will of the people.”
“I was a little confused by his statement, honestly,” she concluded.
