The Florida judge who threatened an attorney by saying “I’ll beat your ass” and then actually did it has temporarily stepped down from the bench and checked into anger management to get help. Judge John Murphy told a public defender that he would throw a rock at him if he had one, things escalated, and the two men brawled.
No one was arrested, remarkably. The public defender’s boss is not pressing charges, because “it’s really out of character… he’s got a really good reputation.”
And in a statement, another judge has said, “Judge Murphy has agreed to seek anger management counseling and treatment during a temporary leave of absence.” The outburst really was quite something, especially at the end of the video when Judge Murphy just goes back to the bench and moves on like nothing serious just happened.
