Forget United; American Airlines Flight Attendant Suspended After Filmed Confrontation With Flyer
United Airlines is just coming off of the controversial incident on their plane, but this weekend, a new incident involving American Airlines is attracting online attention.
A video uploaded to Facebook on Friday shows a heated incident between a flight attendant and multiple passengers as they were boarding a flight from San Francisco to Dallas. Multiple reports indicate that the dustup began when a flight attendant took a stroller away from a female passenger who didn’t previously check it in as she traveled with her children.
The video begins with the woman sobbing because the flight attendant allegedly hit her and nearly hit the baby she was holding as the stroller was being confiscated. As the lady tearfully asked for the stroller’s return, a male passenger got up and told the flight attendant “Hey bud, hey bud, you do that to me and I’ll knock you flat!”
The flight attendant told the man to stay out of it at first, but soon angrily taunts him while saying “hit me, hit me.” A pilot got between the two men and tried to deescalate the incident.
American Airlines reacted to the video with a statement, saying the flight attendant has been suspended and the woman and her family were upgraded to first class seating for the rest of their trip:
“What we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident…The actions of our team member captured here do not appear to reflect patience or empathy, two values necessary for customer care. In short, we are disappointed by these actions. The American team member has been removed from duty while we immediately investigate this incident.”
