Fox correspondent Doug McKelway says that the mainstream media hasn’t given a fair shake to the alt-right — the anti-feminist, anti-multiculturalism, anti-immigrant movement that has widely embraced Donald Trump.
McKelway explained to Marsha MacCallum Wednesday morning that while the media likes to portray alt-righters “as a mob of unruly, racist, bigoted, sexist, uneducated white males,” but that is not the whole picture.
McKelway affirmed that the alt-right was “much more” than a “nationalist, populist movement that is shot through with white supremacism and anti-Semitism,” as conservative author and former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro characterized it.
He points to the “activism” of alt-right luminary Milo Yiannopoulous, whose claim to fame is “ruthlessly savaging the left’s obsession with micro-aggressions and safe spaces.”
“He really gets under their skin, Martha,” McKelway said.
In fact, McKelway says, the alt-right is really just taking their cues from years of progressive activism. “The alt-right is using the same tactics that the left has used for generations now, basically fighting fire with fire,” he said.
