Following the ISIS video released this week, Fox News’ Ed Henry grilled White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest today over exactly what the U.S. is doing to support Jordan. The video depicts a horrible scene of a Jordanian pilot being burned alive, and King Abdullah promised a “relentless” retaliation.
Henry asked Earnest if the U.S. supports Jordan executing two prisoners in response to the video. Earnest did not give a straight answer, but said the U.S. will stand with Jordan and pointed out the two people in question were convicted and sentenced to death already.
Henry also wanted to know exactly what the U.S. plans to do to show support for Jordan’s retaliatory efforts. Earnest wouldn’t say if King Abdullah asked President Obama for direct help or weapons, but Henry jumped in to say that if Jordan is publicly planning to step up against ISIS, the United States should be able to say whether they’ll back the effort.
Earnest assured the U.S. will provide Jordan whatever assistance they need.
