NYPD is on the lookout for a man who brutally attacked a gay couple in a Chelsea barbecue restaurant, kicking one in the face and smashing a chair over the head of another, and are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.
The two men, Jonathan Snipes and Ethan York-Adams, told DNAInfo that they were drinking margaritas at Dallas BBQ on Tuesday, when one of them accidentally knocked over another customer’s drink. “A table near us audibly started making pretty gross comments about the two of us like, ‘White faggots, spilling drinks,'” Snipes recalled. “I don’t let anyone talk to me like that. I went over there and asked, ‘What did you say about us?'”
It didn’t take long, however, for one of the men — both large, roughly 6’4″ — to knock Snipes to the ground, kicking him in the face and spine, knocking out his teeth. When his boyfriend tried to help him up, this happened (around 0:52 into video):
Snipes is currently unemployed and had to refuse a trip to the ER since he lacked insurance.
In a statement plastered prominently in its front window, Dallas BBQ said that they were shocked by the attack and planned to work with the NYPD to find the assailants. “We have been proudly serving Chelsea for over a decade and will not tolerate violent or hateful behavior within our restaurant,” they wrote.
