Georgia Police Officer Shoots, Kills Unarmed Naked Man
A Georgia police officer fatally shot an unarmed, naked African-American man at an apartment complex on Monday.
Usually with these cases, witness and police accounts of exactly what happened may conflict with each other. However in this case, the stories coming from the two parties are consistent. DeKalb County Police Chief Dr. Cedric Alexander said the man, Anthony Hill, 27, was “acting deranged, knocking on doors and crawling around on the ground naked.” One witness told WXIA that he seemed “drugged” and was hanging from a balcony at one point.
“When the male saw the officer, he charged, running at the officer,” Alexander said. “The officer called to him to stop, while stepping backward. He then drew his weapon and fired two shots.”
The officer involved is a seven-year veteran of the police force and has been placed on administrative leave. Alexander said the officer was equipped with a taser and pepper spray, but it is unclear whether he used either. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will take over the case from here.
