According to GOP candidate Lenar Whitney, who’s running in Congress from Louisiana, global warming is easily disproved using a thermometer that one can stick under their armpits or in their butts.
Calling global warming the “biggest deception in the history of mankind” propagated by the “lamestream media” (yes, she actually uses that term in a non-ironic fashion), Whitney proclaims that, rather than global warming making the world warmer, the world is getting much, much colder. (There’s also a ton of references to George Orwell, because of course.)
“Quite inconveniently for Al Gore and the rest of the politicians who continue to advance this delusion, any 10 year old can invalidate their thesis with one of this simplest scientific devices known to man,” she says, and pulls out her smoking gun: “A thermometer.”
(Technically, the increasing brutality of winter actually proves that global warming is real, but Whitney doesn’t acknowledge that. That would be giving into the “lamestream media.”)
Technically, Whitney’s not the official GOP candidate, as she’s running in a Louisiana-style, free-for-all “jungle election” to replace Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA6). Among her 11 opponents is perpetual candidate, former governor, and convicted felon Edwin Edwards. Ah, Louisiana, you and your special candidates.
