As the FBI investigation into Clinton’s emails concluded Tuesday morning with director James Comey recommending that no charges be filed against the presumptive Democratic nominee, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) called for a new independent investigation.
“The investigation by the FBI is steeped in political bias, especially considering that former President Bill Clinton met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch just days before the FBI announced its decision,” Turner said in a statement.
“The role of the independent counsel is to keep investigations honest and prosecutorial decisions independent of the political, personal and financial conflicts of interest that undermine accountability in government. It is time for Secretary Clinton to be held accountable for her extremely careless actions,” he continued.
Turner is one of several congressional Republicans to condemn Comey’s decision. Sen. Ted Cruz called for the FBI to release all the documents they had gathered over the course of the investigation, a demand echoed by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson said his panel would pursue its own probe into whether or not Clinton endangered national security, The Hill reported.
