GOP House Leader Takes on the Federal Gov’t over… S’mores
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy doesn’t think the federal government has its priorities straight. His evidence of such? The fact that the United States Forest Service has a lengthy blog post about s’mores. Yes, s’mores.
The blog post features some important s’mores facts: how to make s’mores and how to roast marshmallows responsibly. They actually recommend “a roasting stick of at least 30 inches in length” and substituting chocolate for fruit. Sacrilege!
Well, McCarthy thought this whole thing was just ridiculous and sent out a memo to House Republicans today letting them know.
“I don’t know if you caught this, but last Friday the Forest Service published an article about how to roast marshmallows… Tips included using a roasting stick of at least 30 inches in length and substituting fruit for the chocolate and slices of angel food cake for graham crackers.”
He adds: “This perfectly captures what is wrong with our government. Hard-earned tax dollars supporting bureaucrats who can’t pass up an opportunity to tell us how to live our lives.”
(Like anyone would be reading the U.S. Forest Service’s advice on s’more-making in the first place.)
And then, McCarthy bemoaned how the federal government has pages detailing things people should be able to do for themselves, but does not have a strategy for combating ISIS in Syria yet.
