GOP Rep. Mo Brooks Connects Measles Outbreak to ‘Illegal Alien Children’

During a radio interview, Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL) continued his campaign against illegal immigration by suggesting that undocumented migrants were the cause of the recent measles outbreak.

Brooks, whose views on migrants and white people are fairly well-known, told the Matt Murphy radio show this morning that a nationwide measles outbreak, which has so far affected 102 people in multiple states, primarily California. Brooks has long argued that illegal immigrants could potentially bring diseases into the US, and he continued this argument today:

Said Brooks: “It might be the introvirus that has a heavy presence in Central and South America that has caused deaths of American children over the past 6 to 9 months. It might be this measles outbreak. There are any number of things.”

Lest one thinks Brooks is heartless on the subject of immigration, he implores listeners that “You have to have sympathy for the plight of the illegal aliens” who “have not been blessed with the kind of health care, the kind of immunizations that we demand of our children in the United States.” Still, he argues, the requirement that children be vaccinated before entering school “to some degree is suspended for illegal alien children.”

Brooks did not touch upon whether he thinks parents should be compelled to vaccinate their children, as a number of GOP figures have done lately.
