Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) was speaking to the University of Georgia College Republicans this week when he shared a story about a recent experience going through airport security that he evidently felt revealed something scandalous about the TSA.
In the video below, first discovered by BuzzFeed, Broun informs the students in attendance that the TSA is “patting down Grandma and little children,” while letting other travelers pass through security without that same level of attention.
“I went through the screening of the Atlanta airport not too long ago and right in front of me there was an elderly lady,” Broun told the group. “TSA pulled her off to the side and patted her down. And then right behind her was a little kid and he got pulled to the side. I went through and right behind me was somebody dressed in eastern dress —man, single guy, traveling by himself. That’s typically as, uh, Middle Eastern and he went right through.”
Broun, who is currently running to replace outgoing Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss also made news this week for holding a sweepstakes on his campaign website to give away a semi-automatic AR-15 firearm.
