GOP Rep. Sean Duffy Rips Packers for Linking Arms During Anthem: ‘They Won’t Get Us to Disrespect Our Flag’
During the playing of the National Anthem Thursday night at Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers linked arms in what they said was a gesture meant to represent the coming together of people who want “freedom, equality, tolerance, understanding and justice for those who have been unjustly treated, discriminated against or otherwise treated unfairly.”
Despite the team’s stated goal, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) wasn’t pleased. Appearing on Varney & Co. Friday, the Congressman denounced the Packers’ gesture
“I’m so upset,” Duffy said. He added, “What I was reading that as was the Packers wanted us to link arms and support them as they supported those who knelt before our flags and the national anthem in protest. And I will tell you what, that doesn’t play well in Wisconsin.”
Duffy — whose constituency extends within a short drive of Lambeau Field — claimed that Packers fans are not behind the team in this case, despite images presented during the game of some patrons locking arms as well.
“They will get us to stand outside in 10 degree weather, but they won’t get us to disrespect our flag,” Duffy said.
