“It would probably be helpful if [POTUS] gave more information but it would also be helpful if he … didn’t comment further” -Sen. Collins pic.twitter.com/WPqrn6nEZR

During an appearance today on CBS’s Face the Nation, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) stated that while it might be good for the White House and President Donald Trump to provide further explanation behind Trump’s claims that his predecessor wiretapped his phones, perhaps it would be better if POTUS just remain quiet.
Host John Dickerson, referencing the White House statement out this morning, asked Collins, “Do you think he owes something to the public now that he’s kind of thrown this out there and now isn’t going to say anything more about it?”
“It would probably be helpful if he gave more information,” she answered. “But it would also be helpful if he just didn’t comment further and allowed us to do our work.”
Collins added, “The committee’s work is underway. I am convinced that we are going to do the kind of exhaustive, in-depth, and prompt investigation that will help put these allegations to rest.”
