GOP Senator Recalls Younger Days When He Did ‘Indecent Things with Animals’

We’d like to give Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) the benefit of the doubt on the following remarks, in which he reminisced at a campaign event about his childhood days in rural Hattiesberg, days that included “picking up pecans, from that to all kinds of indecent things with animals.”

“I know some of you know what that is,” Cochran said, after the audience laughed knowingly. The Clarion-Ledger reasoned that the comment was “a joke, apparently about harassing wildlife or livestock.”

Then again, Thad Cochran didn’t appear to know that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost his primary last Tuesday, so who knows what’s going on out there in Mississip.

Cohcran and tea party opponent Chris McDaniel are in a tight runoff for the GOP Senate nomination in Mississippi, after finishing neck and neck in the primary a couple weeks ago. McDaniel has been up to his own shenanigans.

UPDATE 11:03 a.m. EST: When asked by a local TV reporter about the comment, Cochran replied, “I think maybe I was misunderstood. I don’t remember ever saying [that].”
