GOP Strategist Steve Schmidt: ‘What We’re Going to See Tonight is a Disgrace’
Republican strategist and MSNBC analyst Steve Schmidt, who helped run Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, denounced Donald Trump’s pre-debate appearance with four women who have accused former president Bill Clinton of sexual assault. Schmidt believes the tactic foreshadows a debate which is quickly headed to the gutter.
“What we’re going to see tonight is a disgrace,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt, who earlier declared Hillary Clinton the next president, added:
“It’s devastating to the republican party…This is corrosive to our civics. It’s corrosive to our country.”
Schmidt questioned how vice presidential nominee Mike Pence could remain on the ticket as a principled Christian conservative.
“When he says, ‘I’m a Christian, I’m a conservative, and I’m a republican in that order,’ well, if that’s true, how does Mike Pence stay on this ticket?”
