Arizona’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer told POLITICO this week that President Obama is “race-baiting and pandering” for the Hispanic vote, all while accusing her and other Republicans of being “bigots” for their hard-line stance on illegal immigration.
Discussing a potential President Mitt Romney‘s border solutions, Brewer said that the former Massachusetts Governor has constructive ideas on immigration and added that the GOP needs to do a better job of communicating that to Hispanic voters because, in her words, they share Republican values like being “pro-family, they’re pro-life, they’re hard workers, they’re entrepreneurs.”
Brewer claimed that Hispanics poll much more in favor of Obama because “they keep hearing all the other stuff that the Obama administration keeps bashing them with.”
When pressed to elaborate, she said: “It’s all the time, the race-baiting; it’s all the time, you know, that we’re bigots.”
Asked if she thought the president was race-baiting on the issue of immigration, Brewer replied: “Absolutely, I do. There’s no doubt in my mind.”
”He panders to them,” Brewer continued, referring to Hispanic voters. “Look what he’s done in Arizona. He doesn’t secure my borders. He’s told the border patrol to look the other way.”
