HBO’s True Detective Sets Cast for Season Two
After months of feverish speculation, HBO has announced that Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell will star in the second season of the anthology series True Detective. The first season, set in Louisiana, starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
According to a press release from HBO, Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.” Vaughn is taking on the role of Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
As he did for the first season, show runner Nic Pizzolatto will write every episode of the season. But this time, the show will not have one director for the full season as it did with Emmy-winner Cary Joji Fukunaga this past year. Justin Lin, best known for directing parts of the Fast and Furious series, will direct the first two episodes with other directors to be announced at a later date.
The new season will begin filming sometime later this year in California. No other casting has been announced, but actresses rumored to fill the female lead role have included Jessica Chastain, Elisabeth Moss and Jessica Biel, among others.
