Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price spoke to the White House press corps today about the health care bill introduced by Republicans last night.
“This is not about money,” he said. “This is not about something else. This is about patients.”
At one point he was asked about Congressman Jason Chaffetz‘s comments today that many Americans may have to choose between getting a new iPhone and investing in their personal healthcare. Chaffetz later followed up by saying, “What we’re trying to say and maybe I didn’t say it as smoothly as I could but people need to make a conscious choice and I believe in self-reliance.”
Price, upon being asked about those remarks, said, “What’s happening right now is that the American people are having to sacrifice in order to purchase coverage, and as I mentioned, many individuals can’t afford the kind of coverage that they have right now.”
He did not directly address Chaffetz’s remarks but said that what he wants to see happen is for everyone’s health care costs for go down so people can get the coverage they want.
