A Georgia high school senior got in trouble for a coded message she hid in her yearbook quote, a message that might have made Walter White proud. See, Paris Gray used the periodic table of elements to send a message to her peers that when the going gets tough, just “back that ass up.”
What she actually said was, “When the going gets tough just remember to Barium, Carbon, Potassium, Thorium, Astatine, Arsenic, Sulfur, Uranium, Phosphorus.” But when you replace the names of the elements with their symbols on the periodic table, you get: BaCK ThAt AsS UP. Her mom said her first reaction was “You are such a nerd.”
Gray, of course, got in trouble for hiding that phrase in her yearbook quote. She was sentenced to an in-school suspension, and stripped her of her gradation speech and her privilege to participate in the senior walk. However, after meeting with the school principal and superintendent, they said she will get to give the speech after all.
