This morning, as the Western world was waking up to the news that 31 people died in bombings in Brussels, Belgium, The Today Show called up former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for an interview.
The current presidential candidate provided insight to Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie for over eight minutes.
She called the “sophisticated, coordinated” attacks “deeply distressing,” and then cautioned that we all must stand in solidarity with Europeans during this time.
“We have to intensify our efforts to find and prevent terrorists from ever doing this again,” she said. “It’s going to be a long challenge because of many factors including the easy accessibility to powerful explosives and the mobility of terrorists but we’ve got to be absolutely strong and smart and steady in how we respond.”
She addressed the importance of working with Europeans, especially as they reformat their responses to threats of terrorism in the wake of the Paris attacks and now this.
Clinton gave slow, measured responses that seemed meant to provide a rational perspective, highlight the solemnity of the event, and not incite undue terror.
